木目文様の生成素地に縄を巻き取って転写する「縄目（なわめ）」ではなく、あえて削ぎやヘラ跡を重ね、さらに還元焼成で鉄分が濃淡を描くことで木目を象り（もくがたど）っています。自然木の年輪が浮かび上がるさまは、炎が“土の中の木”を再生させたかのような趣をもたらします。
