Reaction of the reagents and sample generates arsine gas (if arsenic is present) which is brought into contact with a test pad impregnated with mercuric bromide indicator. After a specified exposure period (generally 12 to 14 minutes) the pad is removed and the colour compared with a colour chart supplied. Other ranges are available
